Ultimate Frisbee @ MSS

When most people think about Frisbee they imagine casually tossing a disk between friends on a beach or throwing a rubber version for their dog to retrieve. Students at Midland Secondary School have found a much more exciting way to experience Frisbee.

Ultimate Frisbee is one of the fastest growing sports in the country. From coast to coast there are a variety of leagues from the grassroots level to teams that play nationally. The game of Ultimate Frisbee consists of intense defence, incredible diving catches, and a level of sportsmanship not seen in many other competitive sports.

MSS currently has the only high school team in the Midland/Penetang area. They competed in the OFSAA championship tournament on May 17th where they finished 27th. Hungry for more the team is travelling to Southern Ontario on May 28th to compete in the Hamilton Invitational Tournament where the team has a top 6 ranking.

Involvement in the sport does not end with the high school season as many Marauders will continue to play throughout the summer in the Midland Ultimate Frisbee league, which is in its first season. Some graduating players are hoping to continue to play competitively in college and university. Ultimate Frisbee is a great way for people to get outside and be active. The Midland Ultimate league would like to encourage people to come out and try the sport. No experience is necessary. The league takes place Monday Nights starting at 6:30 with registration and informal pick up games continuing until June 4th.
