The White Pine Reading Program
http://www.accessola.com/forest2007/?
The White Pine Award™ reading program offers high school-aged teens at all grade levels the opportunity to read the best of Canada's recent young adult fiction titles. Students will read 10 nominated Canadian young adult books and then vote for their favourite book. Based on student voting across the province, the most popular book is then selected and author is honoured with the White Pine Award™.
The goals of the White Pine Award™ program are:
* to promote reading for enjoyment among high school students
* to make students aware of quality Canadian young adult books
* to provide opportunities for students to discuss the nominated titles in an authentic manner
The NOMINATED BOOKS are:
After by Francis Chalifour
The Bonemender by Holly Bennett
Four Steps to Death by John Wilson
How to be a Hero on Earth 5 by Rob Payne
Me and the Blondes by Teresa Toten
The Penelopiad by Margaret Atwood
Shattered by Eric Walters
The Sundog Season by John Geddes
Three Songs for Courage by Maxine Trottier
Wild Orchid by Beverley Brenna
The voting takes place in late spring, so it's not too late to join. Five titles must be read to quality to vote for a title on this list. Stop in to the library and pick up a book - it's not too late!
